SES SALINES

Ses Salines, a picturesque village on the southeast coast of Mallorca, takes its name from the historic saltworks that have shaped its identity. Founded in the 19th century, the village was established in an area rich in salt pans that have been an integral part of its economy for centuries.

The salt pans of Ses Salines, stretching along the coast, have been exploited since Roman times, providing essential salt for food preservation and other uses. The salt landscape, with its evaporation ponds and salt mounds, creates a unique setting that characterizes Ses Salines.

The parish church of San Bartomeu, built in the 18th century, stands out on the Ses Salines skyline with its Baroque architecture. The village also features charming cobbled streets, traditional houses, and a lively central square.

In addition to its rich salt heritage, Ses Salines offers access to beautiful beaches such as Es Trenc, known for its crystal-clear waters and extensive sand dunes. The Es Trenc-Salobrar de Campos Natural Reserve, which includes part of Ses Salines, is a sanctuary for birds and a place of natural beauty.

Local festivities, like the celebration of San Bartomeu in August, provide an opportunity to experience Mallorcan culture and tradition. Ses Salines, with its unique connection between history, nature, and salt pans, invites visitors to explore an authentic corner of the island.
